CONDITIONS FOR ISSUANCE OF A PRESS CARD
1. Publishing activity
Applicants must demonstrate publishing activity by providing at least 10 published works in any media format (articles, reports, video reports, podcasts, blogs or similar media content).
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
In the case of minors, a JUNIOR PRESS card may be issued with the consent of a legal representative.
Applicants must have legal capacity. Press cards cannot be issued topersons deprived of legal capacity.
2. Application for a press card
The application form is available in PDF and Word formats.
The applicant must:
• complete the application truthfully
• sign the application
• send the completed application to the IOIJ contact email address
After submitting of the application, the applicant pays the application and service fee for issuing the PRESS card.
3. Issuance of the press card
After verification of the information provided in the application, the selected type of press card will be issued.
The card may be delivered:
• electronically by email for self-printing (lamination, plastic card printing, etc.)
• as a physical card issued by IOIJ and sent by post to the applicant’s address
4. Press card validity
The first press card is issued with a validity period of one calendar year.
Each subsequent press card is issued with a validity period of two years.
The validity period is indicated on the press card.
Each press card contains a QR code for online verification, and every card has its own registration record in the IOIJ verification system.
Invalid or cancelled cards are marked in the online register.
A press card may be invalidated in cases such as:
• loss or theft of the card
• behaviour contrary to ethical standards or good conduct
• misuse of the card for activities unrelated to journalistic work
• handing the card to another person for unauthorized use
• misuse of the card for false identification
5. Information on the PRESS card and IOIJ services
The PRESS card service includes:
• application processing
• verification of publishing activity
• issuance of the press card
• registration in the online verification system
• electronic delivery of the press card
The first press card is issued with a validity of 1 year.
Additional services include:
• issuance of a new press card after expiration (valid for 2 years)
• issuance of a physical press card (printing, lamination, badge holder, postal delivery)
• issuance of a replacement card during the validity period
• personalization of the press card (change of OPEN NEWS affiliation to another editorial office)
• online verification of card validity
• invalidation of lost or stolen cards
• independent verification of card authenticity based on submitted photographs
• support services according to the type of request (individual pricing)
• creation of a journalist profile (journalist medallion) within the IOIJ system
